Restoration of a painting by Paul Sérusier

The painting La Source by French artist Paul Sérusier (1864-1927) was donated to the Musée d’Ixelles in 1922 by the widow of Octave Maus, a major figure in Belgian art history at the end of the 19th century.

The work is of particular interest, notably because of the technique used: painting without oil. Its state of conservation and aesthetic appearance unfortunately no longer allowed it to be exhibited, as the work had become too fragile.

Thanks to the support of the René and Karin Jonckheere Fund and the King Baudouin Foundation in 2021, the canvas and its original frame were fully restored according to the rules of the art.
